About

A fin sets the course

We are a foundation from Gdynia, Poland. We connect science with practice and help good ideas get moving – for water, the environment and people.

Mission

Knowledge that serves people and nature

The Płetwa Foundation was set up to support science, education and technologies that serve the common good. The sea and inland waters are especially close to our hearts – protecting them, studying them and using their resources wisely.

We work for children and young people who are just discovering how the world works, for students and young scientists, for seniors who want to keep learning, and for everyone who needs reliable knowledge explained clearly.

The foundation is not-for-profit. All income is used for our statutory aims and running costs.

A fin drives you forward and keeps you on course. That is how we want to work: connect knowledge with practice and help good ideas get moving.

Why “Płetwa” – the Polish word for “fin”

Values

What guides our work

Reliability

We rely on research and verified data. We say what we know and are honest about what we do not know yet.

Openness

We share knowledge and results. We publish materials that anyone can use.

Practice

What counts are solutions that work in the field, on the water and in the classroom – not just on paper.

Generations

We learn from each other: children, young people, adults and seniors around one table.

Who we are

Board

The foundation was established by Adrian Woźniak, who is also President of the Board and represents the foundation on his own. He is an engineer from Gdynia who has worked for years on environmental technology, biomass processing and marine engineering.

For our projects we want to work with scientists, teachers, artists and specialists from many fields. If you would like to join us, see how we can work together.

Transparency

The foundation is supervised by the Polish minister responsible for family, labour and social policy. Under the Polish Foundations Act we file an annual activity report and make it public – the reports will be published on this website. The foundation’s first financial year ends on 31 December 2026.
