What we do

From the seabed to the workshop room

Our statute covers six areas. They share one thing: sound knowledge and good engineering that serve people and nature.

Clean water and the sea

The Baltic, rivers and lakes need protection and good knowledge of what is happening in them. We support actions and technologies that prevent pollution and help remove its effects.

  • protection of inland, marine and coastal waters
  • preventing pollution – from oil, chemicals, industry and municipal sources
  • cleaning up water bodies, the sea and the coastline
  • environmental remediation and land reclamation
  • pro-environmental and climate action, protection of natural resources

Environmental technology

Waste can be a resource. We support research and implementation that close the loop – from nutrient recovery to new fertilisers and the use of biomass.

  • recycling, recovery and the circular economy
  • nutrient recovery and fertiliser technology
  • processing of biomass, waste and by-products
  • soil improvers
  • algae and aquatic biomass – for the environment, agriculture and energy
  • remediation and reclamation technology

Marine and underwater technology

To protect the sea, you need to see it clearly. We are interested in measurement, observation and monitoring – above and below the surface – for civil, research and rescue purposes.

  • underwater research, exploration and documentation
  • monitoring of the aquatic environment and underwater infrastructure
  • radar, sensor, telemetry and uncrewed systems
  • data analysis for environmental protection and safety
  • safety of navigation and coastal protection
  • civil protection, crisis response and resilience of critical infrastructure

Education and young researchers

Curiosity starts early. We want to show children and young people how science and technology work – hands-on and up close – and to support those taking their first independent steps in research.

  • hands-on classes, workshops and demonstrations for children and young people
  • outreach in science, technology and ecology
  • support for students, PhD candidates, young scientists and inventors
  • scholarships, grants, awards and distinctions
  • demonstration and pilot projects involving young people
  • cooperation between schools, universities, institutions and companies

Sound, culture and media

Sound is more than noise. We work on the culture of listening, hearing health and creative work – from broadcasts and recordings to performances.

  • hearing health and education about sound
  • workshops in music, the spoken word, recording and sound engineering
  • broadcasts, recordings and multimedia materials
  • performances, shows and events
  • media communication and multimedia creation
  • projects for children, young people, adults and seniors

Seniors

You can learn at any age. We invite seniors to join classes, conversations about science and activities that bring generations together.

  • education and social activity for seniors
  • cultural, artistic and personal development activities
  • cooperation with Universities of the Third Age
  • intergenerational meetings and integration

Connecting science with practice

In every area we want to build bridges between universities, public administration, civil society organisations, cultural institutions and businesses. The foundation can also prepare expert opinions, analyses and reports in matters related to its aims.

  • research, development, pilot and implementation projects
  • field, laboratory and underwater research
  • expert opinions, technical assessments and specialist studies
  • conferences, seminars, lectures and demonstrations
  • reports, publications, recordings and educational materials
  • partnerships in national and international projects

Which area matters to you?

We are looking for partners, experts and people with ideas. Tell us what you do – we will see what we can achieve together.
